Why a Pit Bull May Not Be Right for You
from: The Complete DogFor people attracted to the Pit Bull breed, they seem to apprecite how good looking these animals are. However, though Pit Bulls do have a noble appearance, their most notable feature is their personality.
Pit Bulls tent to share many similar personality traits, carrying the legacy of physical and mental characteristics at one time essential for the survival of their ancestors. This breed of dogs is special, requiring special owners who understand the breed. These traits may or may not be positive aspects of the Pit Bull's personality for creating a bond, which is completely dependant on it's master.
Here are some reasons why a Pit Bull just might not be suitable for every potential dog owner.
1. Pit Bulls are quite muscular, which makes them very strong and energetic. This makes them ideal for advernurous people who want a dog that doesn't break easily. However, if you aren't an active person who'd prefer to have your kids walk the dog by themselves, or if you're a busy person with little time to share an energetic walk, a Pit Bull isn't the right breed for you.
2. Pit Bulls are wonderfully intelligent and confident, which is great if you can train your dog properly and you know how to to apply this play drive and sense of humor in a way that will guide his intellect. On the other hand, if you're assuming you can push your dog into being obedient or if you expect him to hang at every word you utter, then a Pit Bull certainly isn't the right choice for you.
3. Pit Bulls are very loyal and capable of bonding deeply with his family. This is great situation if you're capable of returning that loyalty and can make him a permanent part of your family by taking him along on family trips. However, if you expect you'll have leave your Pit Bull home alone on a regular basis, then a Pit Bull will definitely not work for you.
4. Pit Bulls have a reputation for being tough "macho" dogs. Therefore, if you live alone and would like to have a dog that makes you feel safer and more secure, a Pit Bull will fill the bill. However, if you're looking to have an easily approachable dog who is welcoming to everyone who visits, Pit Bulls aren't the breed you should choose.
