Pit Bulls are often discriminated against due to so many misconception regarding their strength and origins. As a Pit Bull owner, it's in your best interest to ensure your dog becomes a good an example of why this breed can be a wonderful pet and companion. Here are a few tips to help you get a the best possible image for your Pit Bull.
1. You must teach your dog to have good manners for his sake as well as his breed's reputation. To help with recognizing his outstanding nature, the AKC provides the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate. By obtaining this certificate it will help you convince friends, neighbors and your landlord or an insurance agent that your Pit Bull is a well behaved, well trained and a model canine citizen. Your dog doesn't have to be a purebred or an AKC-registered dog in order to enroll. Their test evaluate a number of behaviors, including the dog's ability to accept strangers, to stay calm and remain friendly, to sit politely when required, or to walk politely on a loose leash.
